The new event is battery-pack production starting in December

BMW said on July 27 that its Woodruff, South Carolina plant will begin series production of high-voltage battery packs for the iX5 in December 2026. The iX5 is the first battery-electric X5, with a U.S. launch planned for the first quarter of 2027.

That does not mean BMW manufactures every cell itself. BMW describes receiving cells, checking them, and assembling them into packs; InsideEVs likewise distinguishes cell supply from pack assembly.

The 435-mile figure is not a final EPA rating

BMW labels 435 miles as a preliminary estimate from its own testing using EPA procedures. Temperature, speed, tires, load, and climate control can all change real-world range, and the certified number may differ.

460 kW is the vehicle's peak acceptance figure

BMW states that the 800-volt system supports up to 460 kW DC and 10–80% in 22 minutes. A charger must be capable of delivering that power, the battery must be at a suitable temperature and state of charge, and peak power will not necessarily persist through the session.

A charging curve and repeatable performance on your routes matter more than one headline peak.

A U.S. MSRP is not a local drive-away price

BMW lists the U.S. iX5 60 xDrive at $79,800 plus a $1,450 destination charge. Currency conversion alone excludes local taxes, certification, options, incentives, insurance, and charging-equipment costs.

For now, identify what the new model must solve

Write down whether your current problem is range, charging time, space, or comfort. When local specifications arrive, test whether the actual configuration solves that problem before treating launch-day numbers as a reason to buy.
