August 6–10 is an early-access window, so eligibility comes first
Xbox’s beta listing says the Gears of War: E-Day multiplayer test will run across two weekends later this summer. The concrete dates currently shown are August 6 through August 10 for early access, with a warning that beta dates and times may change.
A preorder is not the only route named on the page. Xbox also points to Game Pass Ultimate or PC membership access. If you already subscribe, sign in and look for the beta entitlement before paying for a preorder solely to get in early.
- Officially listed early access — August 6–10, 2026
- Xbox says the beta spans two weekends
- Named early-access paths — preorder or an eligible Game Pass membership
- Dates and times remain subject to change

Owning the game and qualifying for console multiplayer are separate checks
The official beta listing names Xbox Series X|S, PC, and handheld play. It does not list Xbox One. Treat the supported-device section on the product page opened for your account as more reliable than a search snippet or community post.
Xbox also says console play requires a subscription that includes online multiplayer, such as Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately. A preorder entitlement does not automatically satisfy that second requirement.
- Sign in to the official beta listing with your Microsoft account.
- Confirm that your device appears under the supported platforms.
- Check early-access entitlement and console online multiplayer separately.
- Verify that the install option, region, and rating appear correctly for your account.
The useful comparison is 12-player co-op versus 4v4 competition
The Coalition describes Horde Siege as a 12-player PvE mode built from three squads of four. The beta is expected to include the Golden Quarter map, where squads pursue their own objectives, cross paths, and work toward a final extraction.
Versus uses 4v4 teams across its core modes, with equal starting loadouts and no weapon mods. Decide whether you want to test cooperative survival or competitive map play first so a short beta session answers the question that matters to you.

No battle pass does not mean every cosmetic is free
The Coalition says nearly every customization item can be earned through play or with Coins, its earnable currency, and that E-Day has no battle pass. The exceptions include Premium Edition content, charity offers, and partnership items. Iron is also available as an optional paid currency for faster cosmetic purchases.
PC Gamer highlighted the same caveat: paid items still exist even without a battle pass. Review the final store and edition contents at launch instead of reading one slogan as a promise of zero monetization. These details describe the launch model, not a guarantee that every system will be testable in the beta.
Wait for the official listing before planning around the second weekend
If a second-window date appears outside the official listing, note that the current Xbox beta description does not show it. There is no need to preorder or chase an unofficial download link just because a third-party calendar says another window is close.
Immediately before joining, recheck the schedule, account entitlement, platform, online plan, and download size in one pass. Download the client only from the official Xbox listing, and do not enter your Microsoft credentials into beta-code links posted in comments or unsolicited messages.
