First, confirm that the PC is on 24H2 or 25H2
Microsoft released KB5121003 on August 11, 2026 for all editions of Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. The target OS build is 26100.9168 on 24H2 and 26200.9168 on 25H2.
The KB number does not apply to every Windows 11 release. Version 23H2 and 26H1 receive different August packages and build numbers. Check the installed version before comparing a search result or downloading anything manually.
The package combines security work with Secure Boot preparation
Microsoft says the release includes security improvements and additional targeting data for PCs eligible to receive newer Secure Boot certificates automatically. It also includes servicing stack update KB5123304 to improve update-installation reliability. These are Microsoft’s release claims, not performance or compatibility results tested by this site.
Because this is cumulative, it also carries forward improvements from the July preview and later releases. Some visible features use Controlled Feature Rollout and may appear in stages. A missing menu change does not, by itself, show that the security update failed.
Write down the version and OS build before updating
Open Start → Settings → System → About and find Version and OS build under Windows specifications. Confirm 24H2 or 25H2 first, then note the current build so you have a clean before-and-after reference.
Save documents and drafts, clear enough working space, and copy important files to the backup location you normally use. A screenshot of the About page is often more useful than trying to remember a long build number after the restart.
- Open Settings → System → About.
- Confirm Windows 11 version 24H2 or 25H2.
- Note or capture the current OS build.
- Save active work and choose a convenient restart window.

For a regular PC, use the built-in Windows Update path
Go to Settings → Windows Update and select Check for updates. If KB5121003 appears, follow the built-in prompts. Microsoft says it downloads and installs automatically through Windows Update and Microsoft Update; managed Windows Update for Business devices follow the organization’s configured policies.
The Microsoft Update Catalog remains available for administrators who need the correct architecture and package order. It is not the best default path for a home PC. Avoid third-party download pages and do not copy a community DISM command unless you understand the package and recovery implications.
After the restart, check Update history and the build
Once installation finishes, save anything still open and restart the PC. Then open Settings → Windows Update → Update history and confirm that KB5121003 is listed. Return to System → About and compare the OS build with 26100.9168 for 24H2 or 26200.9168 for 25H2.
If the KB is not offered or the number still differs, check the Windows version, a pending restart, and any organization policy before trying to force a package repeatedly. Visible feature changes and the installed cumulative-security build can arrive on different schedules.

‘No known issues’ is a status to recheck, not a promise
At the August 14 review time, Microsoft’s KB said the company was not currently aware of issues with KB5121003. That wording does not guarantee identical results on every hardware and software combination. Individual anonymous reports should not be promoted to a platform-wide known issue without confirmation and scope.
If something changes after installation, check the Release Health page for the installed Windows version, record the symptom, time, and build, and report it through Feedback Hub or Microsoft support. Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro also reach end of monthly updates on October 13, 2026. Installing KB5121003 and moving to 25H2 are separate tasks, so track them separately.
- Read the Known issues section in Microsoft’s KB again.
- Check the Release Health page for the installed version.
- Record the symptom, time, and build before reporting it.
- If you use 24H2 Home or Pro, plan the 25H2 upgrade separately.
One last check
Install and verify it in this order
- 01
Open Settings → System → About and confirm that the PC runs 24H2 or 25H2.
- 02
Note the current OS build, save active work, and set aside time for a restart.
- 03
Use Settings → Windows Update rather than an installer from an unfamiliar site.
- 04
After restarting, check Update history and the target build together.
- 05
Recheck Microsoft’s KB and Release Health pages before treating a report as a confirmed issue.

Microsoft’s statement that it is not currently aware of issues is treated as a current company status, not proof that no device can encounter a problem. Anonymous community reports are not presented as confirmed known issues.
